The Santa Barbara County Water Agency (SBCWA), in conjunction with the United States Geologic Survey (USGS), is conducting an in-depth study of the San Antonio Groundwater Basin. Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB) is providing additional financial backing for the study which was approved by the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors in November 2014. CRCD is supporting the study by providing outreach and meeting coordination.
The Study is expected to take about five years and provide an understanding of water supply, quality, and use within the basin. As part of the study, information will be collected from existing groundwater wells and new wells will be installed where needed. Surface water will be studied using stream flow gages and other types of sensors that monitor seepage into the aquifer. The SBCWA and USGS will contact property owners where access or information is needed.
The USGS, California Water Science Center will post real time data and analysis at ca.water.https://ca.water.usgs.gov/projects/san-antonio-creek/index.htmlusgs.gov/projects/2013-28.html.
